This month, on August 1, has been a year since the fado singer joined the celestial stage.

Along with the admiration, we miss this wonderful, inspiring creature with a truly fado soul.

Although the absence is certain, every Friday and Saturday, as was habit at Café Luso, we expect to find it invariably at your table, with the same discretion and distinction.

She is Portuguese, so it is not surprising her appreciation for Fado. Her name is Alexandra Coutinho and lives in Portland, Oregon, United States of America.

She came to Lisbon to learn about the current reality of fado in Lisbon, she wanted a serious fado house, and chose this one, Café Luso.

Together with their american companion and a friendly couple, they had a precious fado night: a long dinner with Portuguese wine, fascinated by all the rituals and mystical things that define a fado house like this.

Another purpose was, notably, to spread Fado on Uncle Sam’s land. We know that, thanks to the opening of direct air routes, more and more Americans are visiting Lisbon.

One of the singers of the house, Catarina Rosa, as true hostess, welcomed her warmly and, knowing that Alexandra Coutinho also likes to sing, invited her to interpret some themes. Drpped her voice and make it happen.

It should be noted that it was the first time she performed accompanied by a Portuguese Guitar. Where she lives, they improvise with another instrument.

Amália Rodrigues has broadened Fado’s horizons, opened paths, opened hearts that not only those here, also abroad. The name and fame of this artist considered by many to be the Diva still resonates.

To honor her, in Altice Arena, Lisbon, artists from different musical areas gather:

Dulce Pontes, Simone de Oliveira, Paulo de Carvalho, Amor Electro, Marco Rodrigues (from the Adega Machado / Fado & Food Group cast) and Vanessa da Mata.

Big news, the Clube de Fado in Alfama has gained another breath.

The Fado & Food Group comprises historic establishments dedicated to the universe of Lisbon’s urban song.

The Fado Club thus joins now the other Fado Houses of the Group: Bairro Alto, Café Luso (1927) and Adega Machado (1937); in the Alcântara District, Timpanas (1961). The cultural roots of this oral tradition, Fado, have always been associated with national gastronomy. The Fado & Food Group’s mission is to preserve and innovate on the historical legacy of fado houses.

The Fado & Food Group is therefore guardian of the future of the Fado Club.

The 12th edition of the Flamenco Festival in Lisbon is held. No wonder, so many are caught up in flamenco, music and dance.

Each edition intensifies the desire for the art of flamenco.

In terms of sounds, not new, it meets Fado.
