YEAR OF THE ROOSTER. PORTUGUESE CULTURE IN CHINESE NEW YEAR PARTIES

The Chinese community in Lisbon has begun the welcome celebrations for the Chinese horoscope new year starting on January 28, 2017 and ending on February 15, 2018.

Most of the Chinese community in Portugal originated in Zhejiang and Confucianism is the official religion.

It is the most important party in China, an intimate event, in family, as with the Portuguese at Christmas.

For the first time, this year the Chinese community invited Portuguese to join the celebrations, to increase mutual cultural knowledge.

Performances of Folklore, by the fado singer Cristina Nóbrega and the children’s choir of Lisbon Cantat.

Da Zheijiang, the opera company Wu, who performed at Martim Moniz.

In the year of the Rooster, courage, honesty and ambition, are the characteristics that the Chinese attribute to this animal.
